Overview of EMC Electromagnetic Compatibility Test

2026-03-17

EMC testing refers to the comprehensive evaluation of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and anti-interference capability (EMS) of electronic products. The purpose of EMC testing is that electrical equipment should be able to operate normally in a certain electromagnetic environment, that is, have a certain electromagnetic immunity (EMS); The electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by electrical equipment itself cannot have a significant impact on other electronic products. EMC is one of the most important indicators of product quality; Many electrical products require EMC certification in order to be produced and sold.

Electric energy meters are electronic products and measuring products. EMC testing is required by GB/T 17215.211-2021 and IEC62052-11 2020 standards. Today, the editor will give you a brief understanding of EMC's project requirements

1. Electrostatic discharge immunity test: The electrostatic discharge test includes direct discharge test (8kV) and indirect discharge test (15kV); In the operating state where the electric energy meter only supplies working voltage, the discharge frequency is more than 10 times.

2. Radio frequency electromagnetic field immunity test: The cable length exposed to the electromagnetic field is 1m, with a frequency range of 80MHz~2000MHz, and 80% amplitude modulation carrier modulation on a 1kHz sine wave. The unmodulated test field strength with load current is 10V/m, and the unmodulated test field strength without load current is 30V/m.

3. Fast transient pulse train: When the electric meter is in operation, the test voltage on the current and voltage lines is 4kV; the test voltage on the auxiliary lines with a voltage exceeding 40V is 2kV; the test time is 60s for each polarity.

4. Conducted disturbance immunity test induced by radio frequency field: When the electric meter is in operation, the radio frequency field frequency is 150kHz~80MHz and the voltage is 10V.

5. Surge immunity test: In the operating state where the energy meter only supplies working voltage, the test voltage on the current and voltage lines is 4kV, and the test voltage on the auxiliary lines with a voltage exceeding 40V is 1kV; the positive and negative polarities are tested 5 times each.

6. Attenuation oscillation wave immunity test: only for electric energy meters that operate through transformers, when the meter is in operation, the test voltage on the voltage line and auxiliary line with a reference voltage exceeding 40V: common mode mode 2.5kV, differential mode 1.0kV; test frequency 100kHz, repetition rate 40Hz, 1MHz, repetition rate 400Hz

7. Radio interference suppression: When the energy meter is in operation, the current is between 0.1Ib and 0.2Ib; The test results should comply with the requirements specified in GB9254

Electronic energy meters are a livelihood issue related to measuring products, and different countries and regions have their own standard certification requirements, such as MID, CPA, CE, UKCA certification; These certifications all have EMC testing requirements, and only after passing the certification can they be sold in the market. As a high-quality electric energy meter manufacturer, it is necessary to have a complete set of testing equipment. Yongtailong conducts standard tests during product development and has established a CNAS laboratory.
